Devona Knight Joins Shorewomen Basketball as Assistant Coach

CHESTERTOWN, MD — Washington College head women’s basketball coach Megan Duran has announced the hiring of Devona Knight as an assistant coach for the program. Knight played collegiate basketball at Division II Pfeiffer University and has experience as a youth coach, trainer, and camp counselor and director.

Knight was a team captain at Pfeiffer and earned All-Conference Carolinas honorable mention in 2009, averaging 12.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game that season. Over four years, she averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. She broke a school record by hauling down 27 rebounds in one game.

Knight has been a camp director at Sports Booth Athletic Center in Stafford, VA, each of the past three summers.  She served as a team coach for the Lady Hoop Booth Development Team (U13) and as an assistant coach for Lady Hoop Both (U16), operating out of the Basketball Booth Academy (BBA) in Stafford. She also spent time as both a basketball trainer and camp counselor at BBA.

Knight, a native of Woodbridge, VA, and former standout player at Gar-Field High School, graduated from Pfeiffer with a degree in Sports Management in May 2011.

Knight joins Duran and third-year assistant coach Mercedes Van Wagner on the Washington College’s staff. The Shorewomen went 12-13 overall and 10-10 in Centennial Conference play in 2010-11 with a roster of eight freshmen, one sophomore, two juniors, and no seniors. Their 12 wins equalled the team’s highest total of the past dozen years and their 10 conference victories were their most ever in a single season and marked their first .500 or better record in conference play since 1999.
